About the Museum

The Museum, the Ministry of Memory of the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, welcomes visitors to explore the history of the Methodist movement and its founder John Wesley.  Exhibits feature the development and leaders of the Methodism in America, Epworth By The Sea and St. Simons Island history, and much more.  The Museum plays the full-length documentary "St. Simons 360: Historical Video Tour" twice daily and presents the "John Wesley on St. Simons" lecture given by Rev. Dave Hanson every Thursday at 2:00 pm.  The Museum houses an extensive library which includes Methodist history, Christianity, Georgia coastal history, and conference journals.  A lending library and Christian Bookstore/Gift Shop are also onsite.  Museum hours are Monday - Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  We are closed on Sundays and major holidays.  Call 912-638-4050 to schedule a guided tour.  Group tours are available.  There is no admission fee but donations are gratefully accepted.

Historian Workshop

LOCAL CHURCH HISTORIANS

Richard Stowe, Historian for the Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, has created an online workshop for local church historians that is now being offered by the General Commission on Archives and History. The Local Church Historian Program offers a wide range of skills useful to both the novice and the expert historian to make their Ministry of Memory even more complete. Participating churches will learn to dig deeper into their story for the purpose of proclaiming it to the world and further making disciples for Jesus Christ. This free workshop will begin in September 2020 and registration can be found at the link to the left of this paragraph. The only things necessary to participate is a working email address and minimal computer skills. All churches in the South Georgia Conference which complete the Local Church Historian Workshop will be recognized by the Moore Methodist Museum and South Georgia Conference Archives at the 2021 Annual Conference Meeting.
